An Ode To My Bully

Lady in boxing gloves

I didn’t think it would happen to me.

Not again.

Not at this late stage in the game.

To be singled out, negatively.

For no discernible reason.

Not for useful nor collaborative debate.

Not for mutual elucidation nor enlightenment.

Not even for an old fashioned, heated pitching of views.

Not for any reason other than to create drama and besmirchment.

Is ‘besmirchment’ a word?

It jolly well should be.

But I find what I was too frightened to say to tormentors,

Aged 13 and shrinking at 5ft high,

I can say loud and clear now,

Aged nearly 50,

Standing tall at 5ft high.

Say with love, albeit with a saddened heart,

That you should look elsewhere for your thrills.

As I will not protect you again.

Not this time.

Letting you hide in the dark reaches of an inbox,

Or cunningly in plain sight.

Because this time around, dear bully,

This time?

YOU’VE PICKED ON THE WRONG GAL.

 Melinda
